This creative remodel, located in an upscale suburb of Buffalo, New York, was a collaboration of two of Buffalo’s finest, Keith Specht of Artisan Kitchens and Baths and Kathy Fedak of Fedak Designs. Together they made this kitchen— featuring a stunning traditional design—what it is today.
One challenge the team encountered was deciding between totally gutting the kitchen or doing a gentle facelift. The designers opted to gut the kitchen, and what was once a less-than-ideal space turned into a room the homeowners couldn't live without.
At the homeowners' request, a cozy eating area was created to capitalize on the great views of the lovely backyard. A custom entertainment center houses the television and phone and provides storage for outdoor items. A unique display area, which doubles as a strategically placed focal point viewable from the foyer, enables the homeowner to show off collectibles. It also helps to disguise the eating area.
Another display area at the end of the prep island can be easily viewed from the side entrance of the home. Last but not least, a hand-built stone and wood hood was created. It is complemented by an imported ceramic tile and glass backsplash, making it truly one of a kind. The owners, both busy professionals, now enjoy spending time together as a family in this new, accommodating space.
