The kitchen of this 1920s home, located in Buffalo, N.Y., was in dire need of a remodel. The last time it had undergone any aesthetic changes was circa 1970. The green laminated cabinetry and the almond countertops didn't quite fit with the homeowners' taste, and they craved a kitchen that would reflect the antique style of the home and their own artistic eye. They hired Artisan Kitchens and Baths to tackle the project.

The couple who live in this home have four nearly grown children, with everyone always being on the go. One of their primary goals was to have the ability to maximize the time they spend together in the kitchen. Before the remodel, the eating area was located in a nook, which was behind the cook when he or she was preparing and cleaning. Artisan Kitchens and Baths created a dual-level island with seating and a sink on the lower level, which allows the cook to still interact with guests and family members while working. With such a large family, it was important that they all be able to work in the kitchen without being in one another’s way. To achieve this goal, three preparation and cleaning areas were incorporated.

The custom desk area features an ebony stain and a cherry top that coordinates with the cherry cabinetry. The variety of finishes on display helps to create the warm and inviting kitchen the family has always wanted.
