This beautiful Buffalo, N.Y., kitchen is the result of Artisan Kitchens & Baths' Gilbert V. Reed's design work. To create this stunning culinary space, the designer cantilevered wall cabinets 4 feet off the wall into the room above the peninsula. He then attached the side of that wall to the back wall of the kitchen and mounted the kitchen cabinets to one side. He arranged the family room cabinets opposite. Reed then covered the end of both cabinets with a door panel made to the exact size needed. Th e island design is unique, with two levels and undercounter refrigerators on both sides.
To make the space as functional as possible, Reed confi gured the island into an "L" shape with vanity cabinetry tucked inside to create the second level of the island. He placed the undercounter refrigeration units beneath the highest level and the prep sink in the lower. He created the custom-built hood on site to complement the room's cabinetry. Th e two inhabitants of the home—both business owners by profession—entertain often, so all the luxuries within their new culinary space are ideally suited to their lifestyle.
